8/31 Making Inferences

Welcome Back!

For our warm up today, we will try some "Hink Pinks."

We will start our first reading comprehension skill lesson today. Today we are going to discuss "Making Inferences," in my opinion, the most important skill for reading comprehension.

We will use this short story to help us practice.

Let's start things off with more Wuzzles!

Normally we would spend today working on our letters, but you do not have one due until next Friday. Monday, we will begin learning reading comprehension skills!

First today, we will discuss daily oral language, and how we can best organize them. I would also like an update on how books are going and how everyone is feeling about SSR. The remainder of the hour today will be an SSR.

Warm Up: More Wuzzles!!!

Once you finish the warm up, please take THIS SURVEY. Please really think about your answers as it will really help me find what best motivates you.

When we finish the survey, today will be our first SSR of the year. Please document your pages in your "Pages Read Log" in the folder your created yesterday at the beginning and end of your read. Make yourself comfortable and dig in.

Today's warm up is below, see if you can figure out all 12.

Today we will set up our organizational system for SSR, send me the links to your logs, and learn about the weekly letter assignments we will typically have. 

8/25 Back Like I Forgot Something...

Sorry to have missed you guys yesterday, glad to be back today.

Today we will go through the expectations and rationale for SSR in this presentation

We will then head down the library and learn the ropes down there. 

8/24 Happy Monday

Today, we will do a baseline writing test. Please answer the following question: Do you believe that high schools in America should require uniforms? Why or why not? What reasons can to give to support this. Your answer should be at least 3 paragraphs.

Once you finish this, save it. Please write this on google docs. When you finish, find something quiet to work on. We will turn them in tomorrow.

Sorry that I am not there today. My flight home got cancelled, but I will be back tomorrow.

8/21 SRI TIME!!!!!!!

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

I am out of town today, so be respectful and follow Mrs. Richards directions. Remember... be cool. I will be back Monday. 

Today you should take the SRI test that we set up yesterday. Your regular log in should work. If you are unable to get it to work, just find something to work on and we will have you take it when I get back. Please finish the test before the end of class. 

PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL OF OTHERS TAKING THE TEST AND DO NOT BE DISTRACTING until everyone is finished. No listening to music while taking the test. 

8/20 About Me Presentation's / SRI Set Up

Today is presentation day!!!!

Take 10 minutes and finalize details about you presentation. When you are ready to present, use this link to turn it in. To get that link click on share, then get a shareable link, and past it in the box. Make sure that it is viewable for anyone who has that link. 

Please keep presentations brief. Be sure to be a respectful audience. Shen everyone has gone we will set up the SRI really quick...

SRI SET UP!

To get the SRI on your computer the following steps:

1. Go to self service on the desk top and log in.
   
   
   
   
   
   2. Log in, and then log in and search 'SCHOLASTIC' in the search bar. Once it comes up, install SCHOLASTIC - SAM/ Read 180/ SRI. 
   
   
   
   
   
   3. Once the status bar is complete, close self service.
   
   
   4. Then in spotlight (the magnifying glass on the top right of the display of your mac search "SCHOLASTIC" and open "Scholastic Student Access."
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   5. When you take the assessment, you will open "Scholastic Student "Access", click on the bottom left link "SRI", log in, and follow the directions.
